The heart of the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program focuses on fifth grade children. The main objective is to teach various self--management skills and techniques for resisting peer pressure. Students learn that real friends will not push them into trying alcohol and drugs. They learn and practice specific strategies for responding to peers who offer them substances. The 17 classroom sessions will be conducted during the semester by an officer of the Glendora Police Department. At Sellers, the D.A.R.E. Officer schedules visitations in all classrooms and grade levels where age-appropriate safety instruction is given. A graduation ceremony will be conducted at the end of the semester.
